Maengssi Haengdan means the house with Ginkgo Dan(檀) where the person who has the last called Maeng lives. It is the name calling the old house of Gobul Maeng Sasung(1360-1438), famous minister of early of Chosun Dynasty, and it has the oldest old shape of our living houses and it was designated as No. 109 historical site.
The place where Maengssi Haengdan is located has a very good feng shui and energy. Originally, in the end of Koyro, General, Choi, Young lived there, and he considered the humanity of Maeng Sasung who was living next to his house as very good, and in the end, he made Maeng, Sasung his grandson in law and transferred this house to him. Since then, Maeng, Sasung family has put down roots there. Through this history, it is possible to realize that this house was firstly built around in the middle of 14th century, and in 13th year of Sungjong Period(1482) and 10th year of Myeongjo Period(1632), after the main houses increased greatly, they were enshrined and became Gyehyang.
